When Jenny, a plus-size goddess living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), decided to book her first boudoir session with Head to Curve, she wasn’t new to the world of boudoir photography. As someone who has been in the Grand Rapids modeling scene for a few years now, she's had the ability to work with several boudoir local photographers. Because of that, Jenny brought a unique perspective to her experience. But what she found with Head to Curve was something different—something that led to not only incredible photos but also the start of a very meaningful friendship between the two of us!

Why Jenny Chose Head to Curve

Though we hadn’t met in person before her session, Jenny felt drawn to work with me for more than just my photography style. She shared this with me during the onboarding process, “I’ve seen your work on IG and was instantly blown away! I’ve never met a photographer from our area who not only identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but is also a fellow woman of color. I truly felt drawn to you!” It was clear that Jenny choosing Head to Curve wasn’t just about receiving beautiful photos. It was intentional because she knew she wanted to work with someone who understood her on a deeper level. That connection—both as women of color and as members of the LGBTQIA+ community—helped create a sense of trust from the start.

Facing Fears and Embracing Vulnerability

Despite her experience as a model, Jenny still had some concerns before her session with me. This is what she had to say about those big feels before coming into the studio, “Honestly? I was most nervous about whether our personalities would mesh well. I’ve been in situations where I ended up uncomfortable while modeling for a photographer and their team, so I didn’t want either of us to feel like that, ya know?” At Head to Curve, I strive to create a space where my clients feel empowered, supported, and free to express their true selves. It’s important that everyone walks away from their session feeling safe, confident, and celebrated—and Jenny’s experience was no different.

Jenny’s Favorite Part of Her Experience

When asked about her favorite part of the session, Jenny shared, “The collaboration. From planning outfits and accessories to bouncing ideas off each other during the shoot—it felt like we were creating something together. That made me really happy.” For Jenny, this experience wasn’t just about posing for photos. It was a chance to rediscover parts of herself, especially after dealing with trauma from a past relationship. "Working with Keara has helped me regain confidence that was lost due to trauma caused by an ex-partner. She showed me it's okay to be vulnerable." That vulnerability, coupled with the creative collaboration, made Jenny’s first session with Head to Curve a powerful and transformative experience. Since then, she has become one of my favorite muses, continuing to inspire some of my most memorable work.

Jenny’s Advice for Your Boudoir Session

Jenny encourages anyone considering a boudoir session with Head to Curve to take the leap: “Just go for it! Keara is so attentive, caring, and will literally photograph some of the best moments of you at your essence. Trust me, a boudoir experience with her is something you won’t ever regret.” Since that first session, Jenny and I have cultivated a close friendship, and she’s returned for more sessions, each one deepening our collaboration and connection.

Her journey is also a powerful reminder of the healing, confidence-building, and celebratory nature of boudoir photography. Whether you're an experienced model, a first-timer, or someone navigating life with chronic illness like RA, Head to Curve offers an inclusive, affirming space where your uniqueness will always be celebrated.
